Granite is one of the hardest stones known to man and has been used to build some of the worlds most famous ancient buildings from the ancient pyramids, which had various parts of them constructed from granite, to the Roman aquaducts and many Roman columns. Modern skyscrapers around the world are adorned with many granite colors and many roads use granite rocks in the concrete to make them more durable.
Granite is made in the depths of the earth with magma of igneous, crystalline rocks. There are various types of granite but they all include these 3 minerals:
* Feldspar (50% or greater)
* Quartz (25-40%)
* Mica (3-10%)
These and other minerals make granite in various colors depending on their ratios. Quartz in higher ratios tends to make granite a grey color, as an example. Our site is dedicated to listing granite colors as well as marble and travertine.
